Cardinals Best Pirates Again

Not much to see these days when you tune in to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Losers of three straight games, Pittsburgh was hoping to snap that skid, but the St. Louis Cardinals had no intention of losing at home.  St. Louis would pick up a series win with a 4-3 victory tonight.  The Pirates had their chances to win, but the Cardinals would battle back.

Chad Kuhl was good on the bump tonight and even helped his cause with the bat in the second inning.  He would double home Jordy Mercer for the first run of the game, before coming in to score on an Adam Frazier ground rule double.  Kuhl pitched six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits with five walks and six strikeouts.

St. Louis came back from a 2-0 deficit in their half of the second when Yadier Molina hit a two-run home run.  In the seventh Frazier would strike with a rare inside the park home run.  Matt Carpenter would once again be a thorn in the Buccos side when he tied the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh off of Dovydas Neverauskas.

The Cardinals would then take the lead for good in the eighth off of George Kontos when Randal Grichuk grounded out to score Paul DeJong.  Recently acquired Juan Nicasio would stick it to his former team again tonight by collecting the final out and picking up his fourth save of the season.  Sure, glad that Pittsburgh didn’t trade him to a division rival.

There are now three weeks left in the 2017 season, and the only question that remains is how many games under .500 with the Pirates finish?  The Buccos will look to avoid being swept tomorrow when Ivan Nova takes the mound against Michael Wacha.  First pitch is set for 2:15pm, in case you need something to watch during halftime of the Pittsburgh Steelers game.
