Joe Musgrove and the Pittsburgh Pirates pitching staff were tortured again on Wednesday night, as the Washington Nationals used a six run third inning to take control and went on for a comfortable 11-1 blowout victory at PNC Park.
Musgrove lasted five innings on Wednesday, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits. He fell to 8-12 on the season with a 4.74 ERA. Parker Markel and Francisco Liriano also struggled on the mound, giving up three and two runs respectively.
The Bucs’ offense was dominated by Patrick Corbin, who improved to 10-5 on the season after giving up three hits and two walks in eight innings of work on the mound.
The Nationals took control of the game in the third innings, scoring six runs, including a three run homerun by Asdrubal Cabrera. They added three runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to make it a laugher.
Pittsburgh scored its lone run on a double by Josh Bell, scoring Bryan Reynolds to make it 11-1.
The Pirates gave up double digit runs for the 22nd time this season. The nightmare of the 2019 season for the Bucs continues, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that I can’t wait for this to be over.
The Nats & Bucs will meet up for the fourth and final game of this series on Thursday night at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
