Adam Wainwright dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates on the mound last night, as the St. Louis Cardinals hit Steven Brault and the Bucs’ bullpen hard in a 10-1 beatdown at PNC Park.
Wainwright gave up one run on six hits in seven innings, while Brault fell to 4-4 on the season after giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits in 5.1 innings.
Dexter Fowler’s single and Marcell Ozuna’s three run homerun gave the Cards a 4-0 lead in the third inning. The Pirates’ lone run came in the bottom of the inning, when Starling Marte singled home Kevin Newman.
But St. Louis added two runs in the sixth, two in the seventh, and two in the ninth to make this one a laugher.
Marte was the only Pirate to have a multi-hit game, while Newman, Bryan Reynolds, Adam Frazier, and Brault had the other hits.
This was a game to forget for the Bucs, as they were dominated the entire game. They will face off against the Cardinals on Sunday in the rubber match of this series at PNC Park.
