The Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers continued their three-game series Saturday night and once again it was a blowout victory for Milwaukee. After trailing by a run early, the Brewers would go on to score ten straight over the next seven innings for a 10-1 win. We would also see another bad outing from pitcher James Marvel, who was being touted as a possible member of the 2020 staff.
Pittsburgh’s lone run came in the first inning when Adam Frazier scored on a fielding error by Keston Hiura. Hiura quickly made up for that mistake in the bottom half of the inning when he hit a two-run home run to left center field. Milwaukee plated three more runs in the fourth inning. Lorenzo Cain started things with an RBI single. Two straight bases loaded walks then finished off the scoring in the fourth.
Marvel would only make it through 3.1 innings. In total he allowed five runs on six hits to go with three strikeouts and two walks. Cain would hit another RBI single in the fifth inning. Ryan Braun plated two runs in the sixth on a double to left. The final run of the night came in the seventh on a two-run home run by Trent Grisham.
The Pirates collected only six hits on the night with Frazier and Jose Osuna each having two. Kevin Kramer and Eric Gonzalez each had one apiece. Four members of the Bucco bullpen were used on the night. Parker Markel, Chris Stratton, and Yefry Ramirez held their own, but Alex McRae was roughed up for four runs on three hits during his two innings of work.
The losses get uglier and uglier for Pittsburgh as the season winds down. Thankfully there is only one week remaining in the 2019 season, but still plenty of questions heading into the offseason. This series with the Brewers will come to a close this afternoon with the Pirates trying to avoid another sweep.
