Glasnow Continues To Struggle In Majors

Tyler Glasnow made his return to a big-league mound tonight after a successful stint in Indianapolis for much of the summer.  Reports were that he had better command of his pitches and was doing a better job of controlling the running.  We were all quickly reminded that there is a huge difference between pitching in the majors and the minors, and the Milwaukee Brewers pounced on that difference.  At the end of the night they picked up a series win over the Pittsburgh Pirates with an 8-2 victory tonight.

Glasnow would only last 2.2 innings and allowed five runs on four hits during that time.  He would strikeout three and walk six.  That stat line would balloon his ERA up to 7.89.  A few questionable calls by the home plate umpire didn’t help, and even led to Clint Hurdle being eject...

Pirates Have No Answers For Cubs

Tonight, marked the final time in 2017 that the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs would do battle on the diamond.  With the series squared away at nine games apiece, a win tonight would give the winner bragging rights for the season.  After a quick downpour delayed the start, Chicago quickly got to work and never looked back in an 8-2 victory.

Jameson Taillon had another rough outing tonight.  He would only last 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on eleven hits to go with three strikeouts and one walk. I think it is time to shut Taillon down for the year.  He has not looked good lately and the mid-season cancer scare had to take it out of him both physically and mentally.

The Pittsburgh bullpen did alright tonight during their 4.1 innings.  Angel Sanchez gave up two runs on one hit duri...

Pirates Mauled By Cubs

College football season will be in full swing this weekend, and not a moment too soon.  It will give those of us who follow the Pittsburgh Pirates a chance to hit the reset button and follow our teams in the hopes of a championship.  I say this because in Pittsburgh baseball season is over.  If you weren’t sure before tonight, then the 17-3 beatdown by the Chicago Cubs had to be the assurance you were looking for.

Ivan Nova would last only three innings tonight and in that time, he would allow five runs, four earned, on five hits, to go with five strikeouts and one walk.  Nova has hit a wall and we see why the New York Yankees were willing to trade him last year.  Steven Brault, who has been great in AAA this year, lasted only one inning in relief and gave up four runs on four hits ...

Pirates End Woeful Series With Dodgers

The Pittsburgh Pirates wrapped up their season series with the N.L. West and the Los Angeles Dodgers today, and not a moment too soon.  The west beat up on Pittsburgh this year, going ten games under .500.  Los Angeles did they part going 6-1 against the Pirates this year including a 5-2 victory today in the series finale.

Chad Kuhl made the start for the Buccos today and was not very effective during his four innings on the mound.  He would allow two runs on six hits, while walking five and striking out two.  Chris Taylor would drive in the first run with a RBI single to shallow center.  Jordy Mercer would tie the game at one in the second with a bloop single into right field.  Curtis Granderson would break that tie with a solo home run in the fourth.

Kike Hernandez would add to tha...

Astros Avoid Sweep With 8-2 Victory Over Pirates

A lot as gone right for the Pittsburgh Pirates of late, but tonight against the Houston Astros in one inning everything went wrong.  Charlie Morton was cruising again tonight for the Pirates until the sixth inning when a pair of errors, a bad defensive decision, and some timely hitting dug the Buccos in a hole that they could not climb out of.

Pittsburgh actually jumped out on top early in the first inning, when Andrew McCutchen singled home Alex Presley.  Neil Walker then flew out to Carlos Lee in left field and then doubled off Garrett Jones, who made a bad read on the ball, at second base.  After that both teams were held scoreless until the Stros piled on in the sixth.

It all started on a fielding error by Chase d’ Arnaud on a groundball ...
