Steelers Finish Regular Season With Victory Over Browns

The Pittsburgh Steelers entered the final game of the regular season against the winless Cleveland Browns with a slim chance of obtaining the top seed in the AFC playoffs and homefield advantage.  However, with the New England Patriots heavy favorites to win their game, and in an effort to avoid injury to one of their best players, Mike Tomlin decided to rest his biggest stars, including Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, Maurkice Pouncey, and Cameron Heyward.

Despite a strong showing by the Browns, the Steelers made enough plays throughout the game to hang on for a 28-24 victory at Heinz Field.  With the win, Pittsburgh completed their season with an impressive 13-3 record, and clinched the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Banged Up Steelers Fall Short Against Patriots

After a disappointing loss to the Miami Dolphins last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers entered this afternoon’s game at Heinz Field certainly as the underdog against the New England Patriots.  Not only were they facing off against Tom Brady & Co, who has been unstoppable since his return from suspension so far this year, but they were also doing so without Ben Roethlisberger.

Today, after falling behind early and rallying back to make the game interesting, came up short against the Patriots today, losing by a 27-16 score.

Injuries Plague Steelers In Loss To Dolphins

In two losses this season for the Pittsburgh Steelers it has been ugly.  Both defeats showed the weaknesses of the offense and defense, and left fans wondering how things will play out over the course of the regular season.  On paper Pittsburgh should have won easily over the Miami Dolphins today, but the game is not played on paper.  On the field it was a different story, as Miami imposed their will during a 30-15 victory over the Steelers.

Pittsburgh entered the day with injuries to Markus Wheaton, Ryan Shazier, Marcus Gilbert, and Cameron Heyward.  Injuries are a part of football and the next man metality is applied to all 32 NFL teams.  However, there is a reason why a player is a backup and when those injuries pile up, backups tend to be exposed...

Steelers Dominate Chiefs In Primetime

Head Coach Mike Tomlin called tonights game “Redemption Sunday”.  The Pittsburgh Steelers were coming off their worst defeat since 1989, and doubt about Super Bowl asperations had crept into the heads of media and fans.  Pittsburgh put those doubts to rest, for at least one week, with a 43-14 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field.

The offense stole the show early by putting up twenty-two points in the first quarter.  Ben Roethlisberger had a hand in all three of these touchdowns and ended up with five touchdown passes on the night for 300 yards.  His first pass was for 31 yards to Darrius Heyward-Bey, the second would be a 4 yard pass across the middle to Antonio Brown.  The final score of the quarter came when Brown caught a 38 yard pass and took it to the house.

Steelers Handle 49ers With Ease

What a difference a week makes, or in the case of the Pittsburgh Steelers, ten days. After a long rest period after dropping the season opener, Pittsburgh kicked off the home portion of their schedule against the San Francisco 49ers. The Steelers fired on all cylinders to pick up their first win of the year, a 43-18 defeat of San Francisco.

The offense had it going on the ground and through the air. Ben Roethlisberger ended his day with 369yds passing to go with three touchdown passes. He found Heath Miller for the first touchdown of the day and then threw a 35yd TD to Darrius Heyward-Bey in the second. His final TD was thrown to Antonio Brown in the third from seven yards out. Speaking of Brown, he would lead all receivers on the day with 195yds on nine receptions.
