Patriots Beat Steelers Again, Back Atop AFC

The theme of the Pittsburgh Steelers season has been narrow victories against inferior opponents.  Countless times, including the past month and a half, the Steelers have battled their way through mediocre play at times that have resulted in a last second field goal by Chris Boswell to snag a late victory.  That style of play led them to an 11-2 record and the top seed in the AFC as they entered yesterday’s game against the New England Patriots at Heinz Field.

Unfortunately, the Steelers couldn’t’ pull another victory out, as a late drive came up short, and the Patriots held on for a 27-24 win.

Antonio Brown left the game in the second quarter and did not return.  But despite losing his biggest weapon, Ben Roethlisberger was still effective against the New England defense, tossing...

Steelers Show How Flawed They Really Are

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a history of playing poorly against inferior opponents during the Mike Tomlin era.  That is why today’s game against the Chicago Bears had red flags all over it.  History repeated itself today, as Chicago took advantage of poor decisions by the Steelers to win in overtime 23-17 for their first win of the year.

The day started off on a sour note when all of the Steelers, except for Alejandro Villanueva, stayed in the tunnel for the National Anthem.  A muffed punt by Eli Rogers led the way to a three-yard touchdown run from Jordan Howard.  Pittsburgh was able to tie the game with 5:42 left in the second quarter when Ben Roethlisberger threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Brown.

That tie would be broken with :43 left in the half when Bears quarterbac...

Steelers Use Late Comeback To Tame Bengals

It is late December and for many NFL teams their seasons are on the line.  The Pittsburgh Steelers came into today holding on to the AFC North Divison lead with three division games on the schedule.  Up first was a road contest with the Cincinnati Bengals.  These two teams have a history of hard fought games that borderline on cheap shots.  While today did not feature anything dirty, it was your typical division game that was contested until the end.

Cincinnati struck first with a 23 yard field goal from Randy Bullock, which was then answered by Chris Boswell who booted a 45 yard field to tie the game at three.  A one yard touchdown run by Andy Dalton as time expired to end the first quarter gave the Bengals a 10-3 lead.

The second quarter saw Cincinnati jump out to a two touchdown le...

Cowboys Beat Steelers 35-30

Today’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field pitted two of the most successful franchises in NFL history.  For the Cowboys, they entered this afternoon’s action with a 7-1 record and the best record in the NFC.  Meanwhile, the Steelers, with a 4-4 mark, were in need of a victory to keep pace with the AFC North division leading Baltimore Ravens.

In one of the most entertainment games of the season thus far, the Cowboys and Steelers went back and forth through the day, but Dallas delivered the knockout blow in a 35-30 victory on the north shore.

The Steelers got on the board in the first quarter on a two yard touchdown run by Le’Veon Bell.  After failed two point conversion, and a 37 yard field goal by the Cowboys’ Dan Bailey, the Steelers held...

Steelers Lose Third Straight With 21-14 Loss To Ravens

The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently in a tailspin that is being fueled by injuries, bad coaching, and poor play in all three phases of the game.  With today’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh has dropped to 1-3 on the road and is looking up at Baltimore in the standings.  The Steelers fell behind early and their comeback was too little too late as time expired.

Most of the talk coming into the week was if Ben Roethlisberger would be healthy enough to start after knee surgery two weeks ago.  Ben took about 50% of the snaps during practice and was named the starter after a successful pregame workout.  Roethlisberger showed signs of rust throughout the day, and was not helped by his receivers dropping passes.

Roethlisberger finished the day 23-45 for 264 yards with one touchdo...
