Bucs Snap Skid, Beat Tigers 8-3

The Pittsburgh Pirates desperately needed a victory in game two of their doubleheader last night at PNC Park.  After Jameson Taillon was roughed up in the first game, Chad Kuhl took the mound and delivered a strong performance as the Bucs beat the Detroit Tigers 8-3.

Kuhl improved to 3-1 on the season, giving up three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in six innings of work.  Michael Feliz, George Kontos, and Felipe Vazquez each pitched a scoreless inning, providing the club with drama-free bullpen relief, something of a rarity these days.

Cubs Spoil Cole’s Outing, Beat Bucs 1-0

Tonight, Gerrit Cole pitched one of the best games of his career.  Unfortunately, the Pittsburgh Pirates offense couldn’t support him with even a single run.  The Chicago Cubs scored a run in the top of the ninth and went on to beat the Bucs 1-0 at PNC Park.

The Cubs scored the game’s lone run in the top of the ninth inning...

After two scoreless innings, the Mariners jumped on the board first.  Leonys Martin would score from third when Ketel Marte grounded into a double play.  Seattle would then double their lead one inning later when Chris Iannetta hit a sac fly to center.  They would then blow the game wide open with a three run fifth inning.  Robinson Cano started things off when he hit a RBI single to right, which was followed up by the always dangerous Nelson Cruz
