Steelers Stay Atop AFC North By Defeating Patriots

Since 2001 the Pittsburgh Steelers have had a ton of difficulty playing against the New England Patriots.  Much of that has come from coaching and player matchups, with a little help from cheating and referees.  When the schedule came out earlier this year, everyone knew this week 15 matchup would play a big role on who gets into the 2018 NFL playoffs.  Pittsburgh was looking to snap a three-game skid, while New England was coming off a crushing defeat by the Miami Dolphins.

Early on this game had the making of a shootout with each team scoring on their opening possession.  The Steelers first touchdown of the day came on a five-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Vance McDonald.  The Patriots would quickly answer when Tom Brady hit Chris Hogan downfield for a sixty-three-ya...

Patriots Beat Steelers Again, Back Atop AFC

The theme of the Pittsburgh Steelers season has been narrow victories against inferior opponents.  Countless times, including the past month and a half, the Steelers have battled their way through mediocre play at times that have resulted in a last second field goal by Chris Boswell to snag a late victory.  That style of play led them to an 11-2 record and the top seed in the AFC as they entered yesterday’s game against the New England Patriots at Heinz Field.

Unfortunately, the Steelers couldn’t’ pull another victory out, as a late drive came up short, and the Patriots held on for a 27-24 win.

Antonio Brown left the game in the second quarter and did not return.  But despite losing his biggest weapon, Ben Roethlisberger was still effective against the New England defense, tossing...

Brady, Patriots End Steelers Season

Today’s AFC Championship at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts featured the two best teams in the conference after a long season of football.  The New England Patriots have been the consistent, dominant team in the league from the first week of the season.  The Pittsburgh Steelers, meanwhile, had a roller coaster ride of a season in the first half of 2016, but came into today’s game on a roll, nine straight games.

Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, the Tom Brady dominance continued, as the Patriots won this game easily, 36-17, to advance to the Super Bowl.

Brady was magnificent today, picking the Steelers defense apart from the very first drive, racking up 384 yards and three touchdowns.  Chris Hogan led the receiving core with 9 catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns, while Ju...

Boswell, Defense Lead Steelers To AFC Championship Game

It wasn’t pretty, but a Pittsburgh Steelers victory rarely is.  It would take a playoff record six field goals from Chris Boswell, a stout defense, and a timely holding call on a two point conversion to earn the victory.  In the end Pittsburgh defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 18-16 and punched their ticket to a 16th AFC Championship game since 1970.

The Steelers opened the game by moving the ball down the field, but had to settle for the first Boswell field goal of the night.  Kansas City then took the ball and carved up the Pittsburgh defense on their way to Alex Smith throwing a 5yd touchdown pass to Albert Wilson.  Before the quarter ended another field goal for the black and gold made it a 7-6 game.

Boswell would account for the next three scores with field goals from 36, 45, and ...

Banged Up Steelers Fall Short Against Patriots

After a disappointing loss to the Miami Dolphins last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers entered this afternoon’s game at Heinz Field certainly as the underdog against the New England Patriots.  Not only were they facing off against Tom Brady & Co, who has been unstoppable since his return from suspension so far this year, but they were also doing so without Ben Roethlisberger.

Today, after falling behind early and rallying back to make the game interesting, came up short against the Patriots today, losing by a 27-16 score.

Landry Jones drove the Steelers down the field on their opening drive, but was intercepted in the end zone.  New England moved down the field on a 13 play, 80 yard drive, scoring on a 19 yard pass from Brady to James White.  LaGarrette Blount scored from three yards out...

Injuries Plague Steelers In Loss To Dolphins

In two losses this season for the Pittsburgh Steelers it has been ugly.  Both defeats showed the weaknesses of the offense and defense, and left fans wondering how things will play out over the course of the regular season.  On paper Pittsburgh should have won easily over the Miami Dolphins today, but the game is not played on paper.  On the field it was a different story, as Miami imposed their will during a 30-15 victory over the Steelers.

Pittsburgh entered the day with injuries to Markus Wheaton, Ryan Shazier, Marcus Gilbert, and Cameron Heyward.  Injuries are a part of football and the next man metality is applied to all 32 NFL teams.  However, there is a reason why a player is a backup and when those injuries pile up, backups tend to be exposed...

Steelers Can’t Overcome Brady-Gronk Duo

The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots kicked off the 2015 NFL season on Thursday night in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Both teams were without their starting running backs, while Pittsburgh was also missing a starting wide reciever to suspension and center due to injury. This along with many questions on defense had some of us thinking this game would be a total blowout.

Tom Brady, if you hadn’t heard, had a busy offseason in the courtroom, but showed no rust tonight. He would throw for 288yds to go along with four touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns would be to tight end Rob Gronkowski. Gronkowski would also recover a fumble at the one yard line that set up the other touchdown for New England.

DeAngelo Williams was my surprise of the night for the Steelers, as he did a good job ...
