The Pittsburgh Pirates had been playing superb baseball for a number of weeks, but things seemed to slide in the opposite direction this past week, as the Bucs dropped two straight series against the Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals. The Pirates are now 17-14 on the season, with a short two game set against the Seattle Mariners ahead on Tuesday and Wednesday before hitting the road for a four-gamer against the New York Mets.
In this latest episode of Bucco Beat, we look at the Bucs’ recent struggles, from the starting pitching deficiencies to the surprising bullpen meltdowns late in games. We also discuss Andrew McCutchen’s breakout from his early season slump, as well as Starling Marte and his incredible beginning to the season.
We look at the Pirates’ pitching staff, their upcoming schedule against the Mariners and Mets, and the N.L. Central Standings.
