Pirates Podcast – Bucco Beat – August 5, 2012

The Pirates and Reds matched up this weekend for the biggest series in years for Pittsburgh baseball fans.  The Pirates lost two of three games, but won a crucial game this afternoon at Great American Ballpark, avoiding the series sweep, led by A.J. Burnett.  After tossing a complete game one-hitter against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Burnett pitched another gem today, giving up only two runs on three hits in his 8.2 innings of work.  Neil Walker, Starling Marte, and Andrew McCutchen led the offensive attack in the Pirates’ 6-2 victory.

In this week’s podcast, the FFTS guys are back on schedule, talking Pirates baseball at our usual time on Sunday evenings.  They discuss the Pirates weekend in Cincinnati, including the performances by Burnett, as well as the starters on Friday and Saturday night, Wandy Rodriguez and James McDonald.

For those of you who watched the three games this weekend, you know of the tempers flaring between the two clubs, following McCutchen and Josh Harrison getting hit by pitches, as well as Clint Hurdle being tossed from the game last night.  Today, Hurdle’s patience was tested again by poor umpiring.  Still the Bucs held on to win the game, and the FFTS guys talk about all the ins and outs of the series.

They also look ahead to this week’s action at PNC Park, a four game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks and a three game series next weekend against the San Diego Padres.  There’s also another edition of Ask Zane Anything, and a sharp look at the current N.L. Central standings.

The Bucs are now 4.5 games out of the N.L. Central lead and are still in position for a Wild Card spot in the postseason.  Enjoy this week’s podcast everyone!

As Always…

Let’s Go Bucs!
