Wow, this certainly isn’t the way we thought this home stand would go against the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs. Entering this weekend at PNC Park, the Pirates were very much in the discussion for the final Wild Card spot in the National League, along with the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers. But after this weekend, it seems as though the Bucs’ chances for any type of playoff berth are on life support.
The Pirates were swept by the Cubs this weekend, including this afternoon’s 4-2 loss. After a horrible month of August, the Bucs’ struggles appear to be continuing thus far in September, and they may not only be playing themselves out of the playoff race, but also putting their chances of a .500 season in jeapardy.
On today’s episode of Bucco Beat, the FFTS guys discuss the Pirates recent struggles, including their lack of offense, as well as the performances of the pitching rotation. They look at the Wild Card standings, the Bucs’ upcoming schedule, and, of course, there’s another segment of Ask Zane Anything.
